Who We Are
Our Vision
The Resettlement Partnership aims to work collaboratively and effectively for the resettlement of forcibly displaced persons in the Newburyport, MA area. We do this through local community organizing in relationship with resettlement partners to create pathways and systemic change for successful resettlement through creative long-term housing solutions.
Following the evacuation of about 90,000 Afghans from Afghanistan by the US Government in 2021’s Operation Allies Welcome, several families were resettled in Newburyport, MA. Local faith communities and others throughout the city worked tirelessly to welcome them, but it became evident that long-term sustainable housing for these families simply did not exist. Where there are no solutions, we have to create them. This is what we are committed to doing.
Hundreds of thousands of newcomers arrive in the USA each year, tens of thousands in New England, and there are currently precisely zero distinctive housing pathways for forcibly displaced people in the entire country. TRP is creating the first system of affordable housing for this particular and most vulnerable population. We believe that without real, systemic change and progress in the creation of housing for refugees we will continue to fail to care for the world’s most vulnerable population, which is not only a failure in the structures of our society, but a failure of our humanity.
For more details on how we are creating this system of refugee housing, see our What We Do page.
